How Does Invisalign Work?

The patients wear a series of plastic custom made trays for over 20 to 22 hours a day. This leaves you with 2 to 4 hours for eating and performing oral hygiene routine. Each set of tray is designed for gently exerting pressure on teeth and rearrange their positions.

Wearing Time

The Invisalign should be worn for almost 20 to 22 hours a day and the trays are changed every 2 to 3 weeks for accommodating the movement of the tooth. It’s important to wear them for the recommended time to make your teeth move as expected.

For maintaining optimum oral health, it’s important to clean your aligners after every meal. Not cleaning them will lead to accumulation of bacteria, food debris, and plaque on them.

When you want a better looking smile, you need to not only commit to wearing the aligners for 2- to 22 hours a day but also maintain a good oral hygiene routine.

You need to remove the trays before eating and then clean the teeth and trays before placing them back on teeth.

  • Chewing on the braces will roughen up the surface and damage the effectiveness of the aligners.
  • Avoid feeling and probing the retainers with your tongue.
  • If you experience excessive drooling, keep a towel over your pillow while sleeping.
  • It may take some time to adjust with the clear aligners. Don’t deliberately try to speak slowly or you will notice the lisping habit.

With Invisalign, the teeth tend to move quickly than traditional braces. This shortens the overall treatment time. However, the dentist in TX 75024 may recommend taking x-ray periodically to examine the health of your roots.

Other Considerations

In case of sore jaws or tension headaches, massage ice pack wrapped in a towel.

Aligners can aggravate your TMJ symptoms but massages and ibuprofen can help.

Mouth can become irritated and develop sores if the oral hygiene is poor, mouth is dry, and trays are dirty. Visit your dentist so that the source of irritation can be addressed.
